Almost exactly one year of writing and production yielded this very personal concept album. Elements of rock, folk, country, punk, metal and world music were scavenged to flesh out this journey through a very dark soundscape.
From studio recording to various guerilla tactics of recording inside vehicles and basements, every effort was made to retain the raw, emotional edge of Bart Robley's poetry and Blackthorne's accompanying chords and melodies.
The result is SCAVENGER.

The Ruins
The Ruins is a California-based rock project, consisting of drummer/lyricist Bart Robley and guitarist/composer Blackthorne, as well as a host of guest and studio musicians. They are an eclectic outfit with their roots squarely in hard rock, but employing elements of many different genres of music from country to latin, bluegrass and folk.
Bart Robley
Robley is the creative driving force behind The Ruins. His lyrics and musical direction create the framework for the project, allowing him to express his innermost thoughts, experiences and emotions.
Born in Littleton, Colorado, he left for Los Angeles in the late 1980s and never looked back. He built his chops as a live and studio musician, first in rock and heavy metal acts, then landing a long tenure with southern-rock mainstays, The Sam Morrison Band.
In 2021, Robley met with long-time friend, Blackthorne - and the two decided to create The Ruins, a special side project to explore their ecletic tastes in music through writing and recording.

Blackthorne
Blackthorne is a native of Southern California and a veteran of several hard rock and heavy metal acts during the '80s and '90s. He disappeared for many years, concentrating on honing his songwriting and production skills while keeping a low profile.
Robley is solely responsible for re-igniting Blackthorne's creative spark and convincing him to return to making music for a wider public audience. As a writing partner, Blackthorne interprets Robley's lyrics, adding color and depth to the framework of dark poetry.
